Dustin Hoffman (Ishtar), Dennis Franz (Blow Out), and Sean Nelson (Stake Land) star in the 1996 film version of David Mamet’s acclaimed 1975 play American Buffalo, which makes is Blu-ray debut via Twilight Time.

The R-rated drama concerns three inner-city losers and their long-repressed feelings of bitterness and betrayal explode when they plot the robbery of a valuable coin from a seedy second-hand junk shop.

A stylized parody of classic gangster films reveals some profound truths about “free enterprise” even as it gives us a look at three resonant sad-sacks born into the “land of opportunity.”

Filmed on location in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the movie was directed by Michael Corrente (Outside Providence) and features a score by Thomas Newman.
