Director Julien Temple’s free-form rock musical adaptation of Colin MacInnes’ cult-fave book about life in late-Fifties London, the 1986 movie Absolute Beginners offers music and performance by the likes of David Bowie, Sade, Ray Davies, The Style Council, and Gil Evans. Focusing on the British music scene on the cusp of the 1960s, the film features a breakout performance from Patsy Kensit (Lethal Weapon 3) as the deliciously monickered Crepe Suzette and a fabulously stylized visual élan.
The colorful, go-for-broke musical—which legendary critic Pauline Kael described as “An inventive, slangy, poetic celebration of youth and jazz and London!”—makes its Blu-ray debut courtesy of Twilight Time.
As supplier Twilight Time prints up only 3,000 copies of each title, be sure to keep an eye Twilight Time distributor Screen Archives’s for the announcement of the prebook date (usually 2-3 weeks before the title’s street date) and get ready to reserve!
That should be ‘Lethal Weapon II’.
