The 2014 documentary Red Army presents the inspiring story of the Cold War played out on the ice rink!

RedArmy1_optFrom filmmaker Gabe Polsky (The Motel Life, His Way), Red Army focuses on the Soviet Union’s Red Army hockey team from the perspective of its captain, Viacheslav “Slava” Fetisov, who stood up to a powerful Soviet system and paved the way for change for future generations of Russian citizens. Chronicling Fetisov’s transformation from national hero to political enemy, the film examines the social and cultural parallels between the Red Army hockey team and the rise and fall of the Soviet Union.

Featuring extensive Soviet archival footage, the film includes interviews with Red Army goaltender Vladislav Tretiak, considered to be one of the greatest goaltenders ever to play the sport, journalist Vladimir Pozner, and Scotty Bowman, retired National Hockey League and Stanley Cup Champion coach.

The Blu-ray and DVD bonus features include the following:

  • Deleted Scenes
  • Interview with hockey legend Scotty Bowman
  • Q&A with Producer/Writer/Director Gabe Polsky and former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul
  • Commentary with Gabe Polsky and Werner Herzog
  • Toronto International Film Festival Q&A with Gabe Polsky
