The 2014 French biographical drama Saint Laurent goes behind the scenes to explore the tumultuous years between 1967 and 1976, when flamboyant fashion genius Yves Saint Laurent found both artistic inspiration and personal torment in the liberation and hedonism of the times.

Directed by Bertrand Bonello (L’Apollonide) and starring Gaspard Ulliel (A Heavenly Vintage) as Saint Laurent, the film dives into the color and lush textures of the fashion icon in an attempt to explore the man’s mind and creative genius that turned a haute-couture label into a worldwide phenomenon It also takes a long, languorous dip into the glamour and decadence that followed Saint Laurent’s footsteps of fame and fortune.

The film went down uneventfully with the critics, garnering a 51% positive rating at aggregator Rotten Tomatoes based on 61 published reviews.

France’s official submission for Best Foreign Language Film for the 87th Academy Awards, the R-rated production is presented in French with English subtitles.
