The 2015 drama Son of Saul was this year’s Academy Award, Golden Globe and Independent Spirit Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film.

A powerful feature film debut from Hungarian director László Nemes, the film also won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and was named the Best Foreign Language Film by associations including the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the New York Film Critics Circle, the National Board of Review and the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

Géza Röhrig in Son of Saul

) is a Hungarian member of the Sonderkommando, the group of Jewish prisoners forced to assist the Nazis in their extermination of their captives. While working, Saul discovers the body of a boy he takes for his son. As the Sonderkommando plans a rebellion, Saul decides to carry out an impossible task: save the child’s body, find a rabbi to recite the mourner’s Kaddish and offer the boy a proper burial.

Bonus features on the discs of the R-rated film include a commentary track with director Nemes, actor Géza Röhrig and cinematographer Mátyás Erdély, a deleted scene, and a Museum of Tolerance Q&A with Nemes, Röhrig and Erdély
