The 1965 Western The Glory Guys is screenwriter Sam Peckinpah’s (Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia) gloss (adapted from Hoffman Birney’s novel) on the Custer/Little Big Horn story, directed by Arnold Laven.
Andrew Duggan stars as the ill-fated general, badly overseeing a cavalry troop peopled by the spectacular likes of Tom Tryon, Harve Presnell, Slim Pickens (Dr. Strangelove), and a very young James Caan (Rollerball) in a standout performance.
Also featuring Senta Berger (If It’s Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium) as the requisite love interest; shot by the singular James Wong Howe (Sweet Smell of Success); and supported by a stunning Riz Ortolani score.
Special features include the following:
-Audio commentary with film historians Paul Seydor, Garner Simmons, and Nick Redman
-Passion & Poetry: Senta & Sam
-The James Wong Howe Story
-Promoting The Glory Guys
-Stills gallery
-Original theatrical trailer
