Equal parts suspense thriller and disaster epic, the 2014 South Korean film Sea Fog offers a nightmarish scenario based on a real-life human trafficking incident from 2001.
Screenwriter-turned-director Shim Sung-bo adapts a stage play about a South Korean shipping vessel’s involvement in an illegal operation smuggling 25 Chinese-Korean stowaways. When the operation gets botched, the boat crew slowly descends into madness.
Sea Fog was South Korea’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2015 Academy Awards and was an official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival, New Directors/New Films and San Sebastian Film Festival, among other international fests.
Presented in Korean with English subtitles, the DVD includes a bonus seven-minute U.K. short film, Sea Child, Minha Kim
