Ewan McGregor (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) is Jesus — and the Devil — in Last Days in the Desert, an imagined chapter from Jesus’ 40 days of fasting and praying in the desert.

last-days-in-the-desert-1_optDuring his time in the wilderness, he is faced with temptations from the Devil over the fate of an ordinary family in crisis, setting for himself a dramatic test with distinctly human conflicts.

Written and directed by Mexican filmmaker Rodrigo Garcia (Mother and Child) and shot by Academy Award winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (The Revenant, Birdman)  the film also stars Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse, Mud), Ciaran Hinds (The Debt, Frozen) and Ayelet Zurer (Darling Companion).

More spiritual than religious, this historical drama-adventure received generally positive notices from critics, garnering a 6.7/10 at aggregator Rotten Tomatoes based on 58 published reviews.
