The epic period drama Silence is a 28-year passion project that for the great Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas).

Silence tells the story of two Christian missionaries (HBO Girls‘ Adam Driver and 99 Homes‘ Andrew Garfield) who travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson, Non-Stop) at a time when Christianity was outlawed.  When they are captured and imprisoned, both men are plunged into an odyssey that will test their faith, challenge their sanity and, perhaps, risk their very lives.

Tough stuff, to be sure, but certainly worthy the three-hour investment (according to the critics, at least).

The Silence Blu-ray (which includes access to a Digital HD copy of the film) includes the bonus featurette “Martin Scorsese’s Journey into Silence.”
