The 2017  thriller Blood Money is a modern retelling of the 1948 classic The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

Ellar Coltrane of Boyhood fame stars as one of three friends on a wilderness excursion who stumble upon bags of money and suddenly must outrun a white collar criminal (John Cusack, Love & Mercy) hell-bent on retrieving his fortune.  Not surprisingly, greed and a growing sense of mistrust turns the friends against each other as they wage a desperate fight for survival…

The R-rated thriller is directed by Lucky McKee (May) from a script by Jared Butler and Lars Norberg.

Lionsgate threw Blood Money into a handful of theaters in October where it picked up a couple of solid notices from Dennis Harvey at Variety and Maitland McDonough at Film Journal International (who described it as a “derivative but effective thriller”).

We’re curious to check it out just to see what Boyhood’s Coltrane can do when handed a scripted genre thriller!
