Award-winning filmmaker Marina Willer’s (Cartas da Mãe) sumptuous visual essay Red Trees traces her father’s journey as a member of one of only 12 Jewish families to survive the Nazi occupation of Prague during World War II.

Shot by Academy Award nominated cinematographer César Charlone (City of God), the film travels from war-torn Eastern Europe to the color and light of South America and is told through the voice of Willer’s father, Alfred (as narrated by Tim Piggot-Smith of  Quantum of Solace and Victoria & Abdul). An architect by trade who was born in Czechoslovakia, Alred’s attempted exodus from Eastern Europe found him encountering bureaucratic nightmares, transportations and suicides. Ultimately he survived to build a post-war life in Brazil.

The Blu-ray and DVD of this colorful essay documentary include an interview with director Marina Willer.
