A young woman is involuntarily committed to a mental institution where she confronts her biggest fear in Steven Soderbergh’s  (The Informant!) new thriller film Unsane.

Still scarred from the trauma of being terrorized by a stalker, Sawyer Valentini (Claire Foy of TV’s The Crown) receives treatments at the Highland Creek Behavioral Center. Shortly after she unwittingly commits herself to confinement at the mental institution, she catches sight of a facility staffer who, she is convinced, is actually her stalker.  But is he real or just a product of her delusion?

Also shot by Soderbergh under the name of Peter Andrews, the film co-stars Joshua Leonard (If I Stay, Togetherness), Jay Pharoah (TV’s Saturday Night Live), Juno Temple (Black Mass), Aimee Mullins (TV’s Stranger Things), and Amy Irving (Yentl).

The gimmick, if indeed you want to consider it one, is tha tthe film was shot on an iPhone 7 Plus in 4K using the app FiLMiC Pro. It was subsequently released to the theatrical market through Soderbergh’s Fingerprint Releasing banner, where it rang up $7.8 million at the domestic box office.
