Blu-ray Release: The Snake Pit

Director Anatole Litvak (The Night of the Generals) was the filmmaker behind the classic 1948 adaptation of Mary Jane Ward’s book, The Snake Pit.

The film is a harrowing portrait of a young woman (Olivia de Havilland, Gone With The Wind) whose life is torn apart when she suffers a mental breakdown and is admitted to an institution. A plea for understanding, a critique of contemporary conditions and treatments, and a superb melodrama, this is a film that both horrifies and touches. The film also features a wonderful performance by Leo Genn as a shrewd, sympathetic psychiatrist.

Here’s a list of the special features on the Twilight Time Blu-ray:
-Isolated Music Track
-Audio Commentary with Film Historian Aubrey Solomon
-Fox Movietone Newsreels
-Two The Snake Pit Vintage Radio Shows
