A tuneful treasure chest full of more than a dozen Great American Songbook standards and top-tier production values, the 1943 musical Hello, Frisco, Hello is a lavish, nostalgia-drenched showcase for beloved star Alice Faye (The Gang’s All Here) as a vaudevillian who rises to stardom in the theatrical world of San Francisco’s bustling Barbary Coast, while romantically longing for handsome entrepreneur/mentor John Payne (Kansas City Confidential), who is regrettably distracted by the calculated charms of a Nob Hill socialite (Lynn Bari).
Jack Oakie, June Havoc and Oscar-nominated Technicolor cinematography are also prime assets, as is the lilting Harry Warren/Mack Gordon Best Original Song Academy Award winner, “You’ll Never Know,” which became a wistful anthem of hope and longing for World War II-era audiences.
Special features on the Twilight Time edition include an isolated music track, the featurette “Hello Again: The Remaking of Alice Faye,” an original theatrical trailer and a pair of Hello, Frisco, Hello radio programs.
As supplier Twilight Time prints up only 3,000 copies of each title, be sure to head over to the Twilight Time site or that of distributor Screen Archives NOW so you can put in your prebook order!
