In Guetty Felin’s 2016 magical neorealist drama Ayiti Mon Amour (“Haiti My Love”) , Haiti’s first official submission for Best Foreign Language Film for the 90th Academy Awards, three stories intertwine, collide and co-exist to create a poetic portrait of the island nation.

Set five years after the devastating 2010 earthquake, the film’s stories include one about grieving young boy discovering he has a superpower; an old fisherman realizing the cure for his ailing wife can be found in the sea; and a muse struggling  to exit the story her author is penning. Meanwhile, in the coastal fishing village of Kabic, the sea is gaining ground…

Filled with verité-style moments along with lyrical elements to capture the realities of modern-day Haiti, the film is executive produced by award-winning filmmaker Mira Nair (The Namesake).
