Joining Wonder Woman, Mulan, Black Widow  and The Old Guard with Charlize Theron, 2020 has turned into the year of the strong female action hero. The trend continues with The Legend of Tomiris, an epic historical drama about one of the world’s first female warlords.

The film tells the story of the life of the great queen of the steppe – the legendary Tomiris, a woman destined to become a skillful warrior and strategist, unite the Scythian/Saka tribes under her authority, and slay the founder and first king of the Persian empire.

Directed by Akan Satayev and produced in Kazakhstan, it’s based on historical heroine Queen Tomiris of Massagetae and her cadre of female warriors (the real-life 6th century BCE Amazonians).

Clocking in at nearly 2 ½ hours, the action-filled, quite-violent film is unrated.
