Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones arrived on DVD and Blu-ray on April 27, 2010, priced at $29.99 and $39.99, respectively.
Based on Alice Sebold‘s amazing novel about a young girl’s murder and its affect on her family, the beautiful movie adaptation grossed $43 million in theaters.
The screenplay was written by the same team behind the Lord of the Rings trilogy — Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens — and they did a good job of translating the book for the screen.
Atonement‘s Saoirse Ronan plays the fated girl, with Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter) and Rachel Weisz (About a Boy) playing her parents. Stanley Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada), who was nominated for an Oscar for his supporting role, Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise) and Michael Imperioli (TV’s The Sopranos) also star.
The DreamWorks movie, distributed on DVD and Blu-ray by Paramount Home Entertainment, includes limited special features.
The Blu-ray edition contains:
- introduction by Jackson
- featurette “Filming The Lovely Bones”
- “Principal Photography”
