Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released Oscar winning film The Young Victoria on DVD and Blu-ray on April 20, 2010, priced at $27.96 on DVD and $34.95 on Blu-ray.
Starring The Adjustment Bureau‘s Emily Blunt as Victoria and Pride & Prejudice‘s Rupert Friend as Prince Albert, The Young Victoria grossed a very nice $9.8 million in limited release in theaters in the U.S.
The PG-rated movie follows the early reign of England’s fiery queen in the 18th century and features a who’s who of good British actors: Paul Bettany (Creation), Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Jim Broadbent (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes). The movie won an Academy Award for costume design and was nominated for art direction and makeup.
Academy Award winning writer Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park) wrote the screenplay, and Oscar winner Martin Scorsese (Shutter Island) produced the film with the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguseon, with direction by Jean-Marc Vallee (C.R.A.Z.Y.).
Both the DVD and Blu-ray include deleted and extended scenes and five featurettes:
- “Making of The Young Victoria“
- “The Real Queen Victoria”
- “The Coronation”
- “The Wedding”
- “Lavish History: A Look at the Costumes and Locations”
The Blu-ray also has Sony’s MovieIQ trivia database and other BD Live features.
