Black-and-white drama Tetro, from five-time Oscar winner Francis Ford Coppola (the father of The Godfather), was released on DVD and Blu-ray on May 4, 2010, priced at $27.98 and $39.99, respectively.
Set in Argentina, the movie follows two brothers as they deal with the conflicts and secrets with their Italian immigrant family. As well as directing, Coppola wrote the screenplay, his first original screenplay since 1974’s The Conversation.
Buffalo ’66‘s Vincent Gallo stars, along with Pan’s Labyrinth‘s Maribel Verdu and Alden Ehrenreich, making his feature film debut.
Lionsgate gave Tetro lots of respect on disc, adding these special features to both the DVD and Blu-ray:
- audio commentary with Francis Ford Coppola and actor Alden Ehrenreich
- “The Rehearsal Process” featurette, documenting Coppola’s preparation with the cast
- “Fausta: A Drama in Verse,” extended version of the play featured within the movie
- “Mihai Malaimare, Jr: The Cinematography” featurette
- “The Ballet” featurette, a look at the film’s choreography and the use of dance in the film
- “Osvaldo Golijov: Music Born from the Film” featurette
- “La Colifata: Siempre Fui Loco” featurette, a behind-the-scenes look at the taping of Tetro at La Colifata
The flm had a tiny theatrical release (less than $500,00 gross on around 100 screens), so the discs provide the movies biggest audience.
