Two action movies made their Blu-ray debut in spring 2010: The Thomas Crown Affair on April 6 and Carlito’s Way on May 18 ($26.98).
MGM Home Entertainment‘s Thomas Crown Affair, which grossed $69 million when it was released in theaters in 1999, stars sexy Pierce Brosnan (Dante’s Peak) with an equally sexy Rene Russo (Ransom) in this John McTiernan (Die Hard) directed thriller. The film boasts sex, an art heist and plenty of one-liners. Plus, Denis Leary, although his role is much more straight-laced than on Rescue Me. The movie, a remake of the 1968 original, also features a cameo by Faye Dunaway (Network), who starred in the first version.
The Blu-ray, priced at $24.99, also includes the DVD of the movie. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment distributors the Blu-ray.
Universal Studios Home Entertainment‘s Carlito’s Way (1993), with the great Al Pacino and Penelope Ann Miller (TV’s Men of a Certain Age), will be priced at $26.98 on Blu-ray. Directed by Brian DePalma (Scarface, also starring Pacino), Carlito’s Way follows Pacino as an ex-gangster who’s just returned home from a stint in jail and plans to go straight and start a new life with the girl of his dreams, but things keep trying to pull him back in. The cast also features Sean Penn as Pacino’s sleazy lawyer and John Leguizamo as a young gangster wannabe.
The Blu-ray contains:
- deleted scenes
- a making-of featurette
- and Brian De Palm on Carlito’s Way
- Plus, BD-Live access.
Although this is the Blu-ray debut for Carlito’s Way, it’s not the movie’s high-def debut, as it has already been released on the now defunct HD DVD.
