Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment brought out two action-packed titles to Blu-ray on April 27, 2010: Armageddon and Tombstone.
Director Michael Bay’s R-rated end-of-the-world/science-fiction actioner Armageddon, which grossed $201 million when it hit theaters back in 1998, stars Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler and lots of sunsets (a Michael Bay movie isn’t a Michael Bay movie without a couple well-shot sunsets). The plot: A meteor threatens to destroy life on Earth, and NASA sends a team of oil drillers into space to blow it up. Along the way, everything goes wrong.
Like it’s already-available DVD, the Blu-ray includes just one extra feature: Aerosmith’s music video for “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.”
1993’s Tombstone, which grossed $56 million in theaters and is rated PG-13, stars Kurt Russell, Sam Elliott and Bill Paxton as the Earp brothers and Val Kilmer in a delicious performance as Doc Holliday (long before MacGruber).
Like Armageddon, the Tombstone Blu-ray includes the same special features as on past DVD releases:
- three part making-of featurette: “An Ensemble Cast,” “Making an Authentic Western” and “The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral”
- original storyboards
Each of the movies was priced at $29.99 on Blu-ray.
