Faced with mixed reviews in theaters, political war movie Green Zone was released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 22, 2010, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
The Iraq war suspense film starring Matt Damon (Hereafter) grossed $34 million at the box office.
The actioner follows Damon as he tries to get to the bottom of a conspiracy behind the war. He plays a Chief Warrant Officer whose job is to search for and destroy weapons of mass destruction, but when his team is repeatedly sent to places that are supposed to have WMDs but are completely empty, Damon takes it on himself to find out why. Greg Kinnear (The Kennedys) and The Office‘s Amy Ryan also star.
The fictional movie is loosely based on the nonfiction book Imperial Life in the Emerald City by Rajiv Chandrasekaran.
The fictional story of the movie had some critics calling it “anti-American,” according to Fox News, and Rotten Tomatoes shows critics giving Green Zone an average of 56% approval. But moviegoers, who always tend to be kinder to movies — and they are, after all, the ones paying to see it, gave it a 70% approval rating.
Green Zone reteams Damon with director Paul Greengrass, who also helmed The Bourne Ultimatum and The Bourne Supremacy. It was written by Brian Helgeland, who’s Robin Hood, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe, is due in theaters next month.
Universal Studios’ Blu-ray includes a digital copy.
