A thriller favorite, Se7en (Seven) arrived in a Blu-ray set on Sept. 14, 2010, from Warner Home Video, priced at $34.99.
Featuring an all-star cast of Brad Pitt (Sleepers), Morgan Freeman (Red), Gwyneth Paltrow (Country Strong) and Kevin Spacey (American Beauty), Se7en grossed $100 million at the box office when it was released back in 1995. It was directed by David Fincher, the helmer behind Fight Club, Zodiac, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and the more recent The Social Network.
In Se7en, Pitt and Freeman play cops tracking an elusive killer who orchestrates a string of murders that target practitioners of the seven deadly sins.
Known for its shocking ending, the psychological thriller has been remastered for the Blu-ray release, and comes out with 7.1 audio. The box also will include a 32-page book of photography and production notes.
The special features list offers:
- four commentaries featuring director David Fincher, actors Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman and other collaborators on the film
- additional/extended scenes
- alternate endings
- exploration of the opening title sequence from multiple video angles with various audio mixes and two commentary tracks
- production design and still photographs with commentaries
- “The Notebooks,” video details of “John Doe’s” writings
- theatrical trailer
All these were bonuses on the Platinum Series DVD version of Se7en, released in 2000.
Seven was released earlier on Blu-ray overseas, but many fans found the transfer less than satisfactory.
