Sony Pictures Home Entertainment ramped up the evolution to 3D at home with Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs on Blu-ray 3D on June 22, 2010.

As well as available through select retailers, Cloudy Blu-ray 3D discs were bundled with select Sony Electronics 3D TVs, which are necessary to properly view the 3D technology along with active shutter 3D glasses (the kind used to see 3D in theaters, not the blue/red glasses previously used for 3D in homes). A Blu-ray 3D player also is needed to play the discs, although the Cloudy Blu-ray 3D package includes a 2D high-definition version of the movie that’s playable on existing Blu-ray players.
Sony was aggressive with its pricing, tagging the Cloudy 3D at $39.95, the same list price as the regular Blu-ray version.
The disc comes with special features in both 2D and 3D. The list includes:
- extended scenes
- progression reels with introductions by visual FX supervisor Rob Bredow
- “Raining Sunshine” music video
- behind the scenes of Miranda Cosgrove’s “Raining Sunshine”
- “A Recipe for Success: The Making of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”
- “Key Ingredients: The Voices of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”
All are available on the regular Blu-ray version of the family film , but the regular has a few more exclusives.
Exclusives for the 3D version are:
- sneak previews of Open Season and Monster House on Blu-ray 3D
- early development scenes
In Cloudy, young inventor Flint Lockwood (voiced by Bill Hader, Paul) builds his ultimate creation: a machine that turns the weather into food. But when it starts working too well and giant cheeseburgers and spaghetti tornadoes threaten to destroy the world, Flint must fix it with the help of weather girl Sam Sparks (Anna Faris, Yogi Bear).
