Family fantasy adventure Neverending Story debuted on Blu-ray in the U.S. on Sept. 14, 2010, from Warner Home Video. Like Paramount Home Entertainment’s Stardust, Neverending Story was released in Blu-ray overseas in 2007.
The movie, which grossed $20.28 million when it was released back in 1984, follows young Bastian as he opens a mysterious book and is magically transported into a new world, filled with racing snails, high-glider bats, soaring luckdragons and an Empress who needs to be saved. Neverending Story was directed by Wolfgang Petersen (The Perfect Storm).
Priced at $24.98, the Blu-ray only has a trailer in its extras menu.
The same day, Warner released another fantasy on Blu-ray, Peter Jackson’s (The Lovely Bones) three Lord of the Rings movies — The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and — in individual Blu-ray packages.
Each movie was priced at $24.98.
The three films were available on Blu-ray since April but only as The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy.
The extended editions of the Academy Award-winning movies weren’t released on Blu-ray until June 28, 2011.
