New Release: My Favorite Spy DVD

Olive Films delivered a batch of vintage Paramount Pictures movies on DVD on Sept. 28, 2010, including the Bob Hope/Hedy Lamarr film My Favorite Spy, Jacqueline Susann’s Once is Not Enough (1975) starring Kirk Douglas and Alexis Smith, the bio-pic Harlow (1965) starring Carroll Baker, the Danny Kaye comedy Knock on Wood (1953) and, the one we’ve really been waiting for, the salacious soaper Where Love Has Gone.

Mastered in high-definition from 35mm archive prints, these new DVD releases carry a suggested retail price of $24.95.

Directed by Edward Dmytryk, the 1964 film Where Love Has Gone is based on the Harold Robbins’ bestseller and stars Susan Hayward and Joey Heatherton as a mother and daughter who have fallen in love with the same man, leading to the lover’s murder at the hands of the daughter. It’s real Lana Turner stuff.

The film also stars Bette Davis as Hayward’s domineering mother and Mike Connors as Heatherton’s father, and features a supporting cast that includes Jane Greer, DeForest Kelly and George McCready.

Also based on a bestseller, Harlow looks at the life of the blonde bombshell who rose to fame in the 1930s.

Once is Not Enough tells the story of an over-the-hill movie producer who marries a wealthy woman to please his spoiled daughter, who in turn seduces a wealthy playboy and a local screenwriter.

And in My Favorite Spy, a burlesque comic is hired by U.S. agents to impersonate an international spy.
