Creepy thriller movie Red Dragon bowed on Oct. 12, 2010, but it was not the film’s debut in high-definition, as Red Dragon was released on HD DVD before that format lost the high-def war.
Universal Studios Home Entertainment‘s 2002 film stars Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1), Edward Norton (Stone), Anthony Hopkins (The Rite), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Jack Goes Boating) and Emily Watson (Equilibrium) and is based on the novel by Thomas Harris. The novel series starring Hannibal Lecter also spawned the hit thriller movies The Silence of the Lamb, Hannibal and pre-quel Hannibal Rising.
The special features on the Red Dragon Blu-ray are the same as on the previously released two-DVD set. Here’s the list:
- “Lecter’s FBI File and Life History”
- “Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer Hosted by John Douglas”
- “Anthony Hopkins: Lecter and Me”
- “The Making of Red Dragon“
- feature commentary with director Brett Ratner and writer Ted Tally
- music score commentary with composer Danny Elfman
- additional scenes
- Brett Ratner’s Student Film
- Visual Effects
- Screen and Film Tests
- “The Burning Wheelchair”
- “The Leeds’ House Crime Scene”
- Storyboards to Final Feature Comparison
Red Dragon grossed $93 million when it was released in theaters back in 2002. The film is not the first adaptation of Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon novel. 1986 movie Manhunter, starring CSI‘s William Petersen, was the first adaptation of the book and the first movie with Hannibal Lecter.
