On Sept. 14, 2010, Image Entertainment issued the documentary movie Jimi Hendrix: The Guitar Hero on DVD and as a digital download, timed to the 40th anniversary of the death of rock’s greatest guitarist.
Narrated by guitarist Slash of Guns N Roses fame, the latest entry in the British-produced “Classic Artists” series (which also includes installments on Cream, The Moody Blues, Yes and Jethro Tull), The Guitar Hero is less a biography on Jimi Hendrix the man than it is a film that focuses on the music itself and the impetus of the master who created it.
Carrying a suggested list price of $19.98, the two-hour DVD features new interviews with members of Hendrix’s family along with some of the greatest names in classic and contemporary rock music — including Dave Mason, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, Eric Burdon, Mick Taylor, Paul Rodgers and Bev Bevan.
Here’s a list of the special features included on the DVD:
- Henry Diltz’ 8mm Silent Footage: “The Monkees”
- “Jimi Hendrix Experience” at the Marquee – “Hey Joe”
- Collectible 20-page booklet
- Extended interviews
- Photo galleries
