BBC‘s John Lennon biography film Lennon Naked was released on DVD on Nov. 23, 2010, through Warner Home Video.
The 82-minute British drama looks at the musician’s life during the late 1960s, right before The Beatles broke up. The movie, written by TV writer Robert Jones (The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency), examines how Lennon’s relationship with his estranged father contributed to the disbanding of the rock band. In 1964, Lennon’s manager Brian Epstein convinced Lennon to, in front of the press, meet his father, Freddie, who had abandoned Lennon 17 years earlier. Thus began a string of incidents, including his comment that The Beatles are “more popular than Jesus,” that lead to Lennon’s arguments with his wife, meeting Yoko Ono, leaving his wife and son and finally ending the band.
The movie stars Christopher Eccleston (Amelia) as Lennon, Andrew Scott (TV’s John Adams) as Paul McCartney and Naoko Mori (TV’s Torchwood) as Yoko Ono.
The DVD was priced at $19.98.
Although Lennon Naked had no theatrical release in the U.S., it did play in theaters in the U.S. and Japan.
