In October 2010, Lionsgate released five independent film favorites on high-definition Blu-ray. Hard Candy, starring Ellen Page; Bad Lieutenant with Harvey Keitel; Secretary featuring Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Spader; and Wonderland with Val Kilmer and Kate Bosworth debut on Oct. 5, 2010, priced at $19.99 each.
In the thriller Hard Candy (2005), Page (Inception) plays a 14-year-old who turns the tables on an older photographer (Patrick Wilson of Watchmen) she meets over the Internet. The Blu-ray will include two audio commentaries with the filmmakers and actors, deleted and extended scenes, a making-of documentary and the “Controversial Confection” featurette.
1992’s Bad Lieutenant finds Keitel (Taxi Driver) as a New York cop who’s addicted to drugs, gambling and sex. Among the special features will be a retrospective documentary featuring exclusive interviews with cast and crew members and an audio commentary with director Abel Ferrara and director of photography Ken Kelsch.
The dark comedy Secretary (2002) stars Spader (TV’s Boston Legal) and Gyllenhaal (Nanny McPhee Returns) as boss and secretary, respectively, who cross the line of their professional relationship. Director Steven Shainberg and screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson recorded a commentary for the Blu-ray, which also offers a behind-the-scenes featurette and a photo gallery.
And drama Wonderland recounts the true story a quadruple homicide on July 1, 1981, at 8763 Wonderland Avenue in Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon area. The investigation led LAPD detectives into the seedy world of drugs and violence, including nightclub impresario Eddie Nash and porn legend John Holmes (Kilmer, Red Planet). The special features includ deleted scenes, crime scene footage, “Hollywood at Large” Court TV show and an audio commentary with director/co-writer James Cox and co-writer Captain Mauzner.
Also on Oct. 5, Lionsgate released five horror films on Blu-ray in time for Halloween. Open Water / Open Water 2: Adrift double feature, 2001 Maniacs and High Tension also were priced at $19.99 each. Their special features menus are as follows:
