Warner Bros. had planned to convert the upcoming two-part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie into 3D for its run in theaters, but cancelled its plans due to time constraints, deciding instead to release the movie in 2D only in theaters. But the studio is moving forward with plans to make the Harry Potter movies available in Blu-ray 3D for the home market.
Variety reports that Warner has hired 3D conversion company Prime Focus to convert Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince into 3D for release on Blu-ray 3D.
Both parts of Deathly Hallows also are in line for 3D conversion by Prime Focus for Blu-ray 3D, according to Variety. Release dates have not yet been set.
Research firm ABI Research sees 3D at home growing in popularity during the next few years, and a number of studios are already releasing new and older movies on Blu-ray 3D.
