New Release: The Winning Season DVD

Lionsgate released the sports drama movie The Winning Season on DVD on Nov. 23, 2010, for a suggested retail price of $27.98.

The independent film stars Sam Rockwell (Iron Man 2) as Bill, an ex-high school basketball star who has been down on his luck for quite some time, living on his former glory. When Bill runs out of options, his only choice to make ends meet is to coach the local high school girls’ basketball team — and he soon discovers he has a lot more to learn from a group of girls than he could have ever expected.

A 2009 Sundance Film Festival selection that received a limited run in theaters in September 2010, The Winning Season also stars Emma Roberts (Valentine’s Day), Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine) and Rooney Mara (The Social Network).

The movie’s DVD features an audio commentary with writer/director James C. Strouse (Grace Is Gone).
