The third and final film adaptation of novelist Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest was released on DVD and Blu-ray on Jan. 25, 2011, from Music Box Films Home Entertainment.
In the critically acclaimed Swedish crime drama, Noomi Rapace (now filming the sequel to Sherlock Holmes) and Michael Nyqvist reprise their roles as Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist, respectively. In this installment of the story, Mikael must prove Lisbeth’s innocence as she recovers in hospital and waits to be tried for three murders.
Larsson’s crime novels have sold more than 45 million books worldwide. The R-rated Swedish movie version of Hornet’s Nest had a limited run in theaters in the U.S.
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest also is available in a Stieg Larsson’s Dragon Tattoo Trilogy boxed set, with the first two films, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played With Fire. The first two movies were released on DVD and Blu-ray on July 6, 2010, and Oct. 26, 2010, respectively. The Stieg Larsson’s Dragon Tattoo Trilogy was released on Feb. 22, 2011.
The trilogy was priced at $59.95 on DVD and $79.95 on Blu-ray, and Hornet’s Nest was $29.95 on DVD and $34.95 on Blu-ray.
Both versions of the trilogy set include these special features:
- “Millennium: The Story” 53-minute documentary about the best-selling Millennium trilogy and the life of author Larsson until his death before The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was published.
- 20-minute interview with Rapace
- 15-minute interview with Nyqvist
- nine-minute featurette about the making of the fight scene between Niederman and Paulo Roberto in Fire
- and 15-minute interview with the cast and crew of Fire and Hornet’s Nest.
