Sony Pictures Home Entertainment extended the Open Season franchise with a DVD/Blu-ray premiere movie on Jan. 25, 2011. Animated comedy Open Season 3 brings back the loveable characters of Elliot and Boog and adds new characters.
In this new family movie, Boog stumbles on a visiting circus and is fascinated by the big top, especially the lady bears. He switches place with a look-alike circus grizzly and takes over the part in the act. But, the circus is headed back to Russia, and Elliot, McSquizzy and Mr. Weenie must race to save Boog before it’s too late. Open Season 3 features the voices of Steve Schirripa (Open Season 2 and TV’s The Sopranos) and Crispin Glover (Back to the Future).
The DVD was priced at $28.95 and the Blu-ray $34.95, but the high-definition Blu-ray release is a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.
The DVD disc includes these special features:
- progression reel, which shows a scene from story sketch through final animation
- and “Runaway RV” game, in which players must steer Mr. Weenie and the pet gang to safety.
The Blu-ray also offers:
- “Boog’s Cannon Blast” game, in which players can launch the Open Season characters out of a circus cannon to free Boog from his cage,
- and “Rabbit Splat Mode,” with which viewers can throw virtual rabbits at the screen while watching the movie.
The PG-rated movie is about 75 minutes.
