Director Cameron Crowe’s critically acclaimed and Oscar-winning drama Almost Famous debuted on high-definition Blu-ray on Jan. 30, 2011, from Paramount Home Entertainment — but this is a Best Buy exclusive. The Blu-ray is available from other retailers after Oct. 4, 2011.
The semi-autobiographical movie about the coming-of-age of a teenage rock journalist on tour with a band won an Academy Award for writer/director Crowe’s screenplay and was nominated for three others (best editing and best supporting actress for Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand).
The film stars Patrick Fugit (Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant) as William Miller, the young journalist who gets an opportunity to write a story for Rolling Stone Magazine and goes on tour with up-and-coming rock band Stillwater. Billy Crudup (Eat Pray Love) and Jason Lee (TV’s My Name is Earl) play rockers in Stillwater, Hudson (Skeleton Key) and Anna Paquin (TV’s True Blood) play groupies, McDormand (Fargo) is William’s controlling mother and Zooey Deschanel (500 Days of Summer) is William’s sister. Philip Seymour Hoffman (Pirate Radio) rounds out the cast as Lester Bangs, editor of rock magazine Cream and a mentor to William.
Almost Famous: The Bootleg Cut Blu-ray includes a longer 162-minute version of the movie, a version that is unrated (the original is rated R). This version was released on DVD
