Nowhere Boy, a film chronicling the childhood of singer John Lennon, arrived on DVD and Blu-ray on Jan. 25, 2011, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
The R-rated biography movie stars Aaron Johnson (better known as Kick Ass in Kick Ass) as a teenage Lennon living with his aunt Mimi (Kristin Scott Thomas, The English Patient) in Liverpool, England, and trying to connect with his free-spirited mother Julia (Anne Marie Duff, Notes On a Scandal).
Tensions in his life push Lennon to escape into music and join Paul McCartney (Thomas Brodie Sangster, Love Actually) in forming The Beatles, one of the most influential rock and roll bands of all time.
The British film was shown in a handful of theaters in the U.S., grossing $1.4 million.
The DVD of Nowhere Boy was priced at $28.95, with Blu-ray at $30.95.
Both include these special features:
- featurette “Nowhere Boy: The Untold Story of John Lennon and the Creation of The Beatles”
- and five deleted scenes: “John & Julia,” “A Quick Chat,” “Fance Piece,” “Maggie May” and “One Take Wonders.”
Blu-ray also has BD-Live Internet access.
