Universal Studios Home Entertainment is making another DVD movie in the Scorpion King franchise. Principal photography for The Scorpion King 3, starring Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Victor Webster (Surrogates) and Billy Zane (Magic Man), is currently going on in Thailand.
The Scorpion King 3 begins where adventure movie The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior left off, continuing the story of Mathayus (Webster), now the deposed leader of an ancient desert empire. In the new movie, Mathayus has lost his beloved queen and been driven from his kingdom by a plague. Acting as an assassin for hire, Mathayus is sent by the King of Egypt (Perlman) to protect his ally, King Rasmusan (Temuera Morrison, Star Wars: Episode III — Revene of the Sith) from imminent attack. In return, Mathayus will get Rasmusan’s daughter (Krystal Vee, Streetfighter: The Legend of Chin-Li) in marriage and the Eye of the Gods medallion, which gives its wearer supernatural powers. But first he has to rescue Rasmusan’s daughter from the evil King Talus (Zane) and face an evil that will test his strength and courage.
The action movie also features UFC star Kimbo Slice and WWE champion Dave Bautista.
According to Glenn Ross, executive VP and general manager of Universal Studios Home Entertainment Productions: “The Scorpion King 3 raises the bar for DVD Originals, encompassing the most stunning action, visual effects and production values to date, including a cast of over 400 warriors and elephants.”
The film is being directed by Roel Reine (Death Race 2).
No news yet on when the movie will be released on DVD, but we’re betting next fall.
