Strand Releasing released the comedy Feed the Fish on DVD on Jan. 25, 2011, for the suggested retail price of $24.99.
The first movie directed by Mike Matzdorff, Feed the Fish stars Ross Partridge (Baghead) as Joe Peterson, a burned-out children’s book writer who’s on the brink of a mid-life crisis. With his career at a standstill and his relationship in shambles, he leaves town with his best friend (Michael Chernus, The Messenger) to do the Polar Bear Plunge in the dead of winter in Northern Wisconsin.
During his quest for inspiration, Joe encounters three generations of dysfunctional family that includes an obsessed law enforcement professional (Tony Shalhoub, TV’s Monk), a wise old fisherman (Barry Corbin, No Country for Old Men) and a muse with a pair of hockey skates (Katie Aselton, The Puffy Chair). With the crew’s help, Joe finds his lost passion, survives an assault by a tyrannical ex-girlfriend (Vanessa Branch, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), and stays out of the way of the law.
The 2009 independent film played a bunch of regional film festivals over the last year, including the Wisconsin Film Festival last April, and received a brief theatrical run in Wisconsin several months prior to that, where it received generally positive review.
Special features on the Feed the Fish DVD include behind-the-scenes footage.

This was a project that was well-covered by Wisconsin Media Outlets, and was produced in the wake of the shortlived WI filmmaking tax incentives that brought PUBLIC ENEMIES to the state. Tony Shalhoub is a Green Bay, WI native… and FEED THE FISH was definitely a labor of love for him to be involved with after the conclusion of his hit series MONK.
I missed this at the film festivals ( sell out crowds ) and the public appearances by Shalhoub… but am certainly looking forward to a chance to catch this on DVD.
