The first version of Charles Dickens’ classic story of A Christmas Carol is at No. 13 in Disc Dish‘s countdown of the top 25 Christmas movies. And which version is it? The one with some of the best actors in Hollywood: The Muppet Show‘s Fozzie Bear, Swedish Chef, Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog.
The G-rated The Muppet Christmas Carol opened in theaters in 1992 starring The Great Gonzo as Charles Dickens, Kermit as Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy as his wife Emily (much to her delight) and the great Michael Caine (Batman Begins, Inception) as Ebenezer Scrooge.
The family movie tells the familiar story of how the miserly Scrooge is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve — the ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present and the ghost of Christmas yet to come. During the night, he learns about the true spirit of Christmas and changes his life before it’s too late.
As usual for any Muppet picture, this one features songs, including “One More Sleep ‘Til Christmas” by Kermit the Frog, “Bless Us All” by Robin Frog playing Tiny Tim and “Thankful Heart” by Caine.
The Muppet Christmas Carol is available on DVD from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.
