It is Christmas, so what better movie to be at No. 6 in Disc Dish‘s countdown of the 25 best Christmas movies than The Nativity Story? The film does, afterall, chronicle the whole reason for Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ.
Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (director of the original Twilight movie), the 2006 award-winning Nativity Story covers the Bible story including the visit of the Angel Gabriel with his important request, the wise men who foresee the divine birth and the king who feels threatened by the prophecy and retaliates.
The beautifully shot PG-rated drama stars Keisha Castle-Hughes as Mary (Whale Rider) and Oscar Isaac (Robin Hood) as Joseph, who travel to Bethlehem where Jesus will be born. Also in the film are Ciaran Hinds (Road to Perdition) as Herod, Shohreh Aghdashloo (X-Men: The Last Stand) as Mary’s cousin Elizabeth and Alexander Siddig (Clash of the Titans) as the Angel Gabriel.
The Nativity Story is available on DVD from Warner Home Video.
