Landmark science-fiction film Soylent Green made its high-definition Blu-ray debut on March 29, 2011, from Warner Home Video.
The 1973 movie, based on the novel Make Room! Make Room! by Harry Harrison, stars Charlton Heston (Dark City) as a New York detective in the year 2022, when the world is overpopulated, natural foods are extinct and New York City has 40 million starving people. The poor are fed through water rations and with a mysterious new food called Soylent. While investigating the murder of the president of the Soylent company, Heston discovers a strange secret about the revolutionary new food product and then finds himself the target of government agents.
Also starring Leigh Taylor-Young (TV’s Passions) and Edward G. Robinson (The Ten Commandments) in his last film, Soylent Green was directed by Richard Fleischer, helmer of Tora! Tora Tora! and Conan the Destroyer.

I guess this is where GM companies like Monsanto want to take us. Thanks God for countries in Europe saying “no” to genetically modified foods despite threats of retaliation by a US Government official. Great movie.
