A Summer in Genoa, a 2008 drama starring Colin Firth (A Single Man) and Catherine Keener (Cyrus), premiered in the U.S. on DVD on April 12, 2011, courtesy of Entertainment One.
Directed by Michael Winterbottom (24 Hour Party People), the independent film revolves around Joe (Firth), who moves to Genoa, Italy, with his two daughters Kelly (Willa Holland, Legion) and Mary (Perla Haney-Jardine, Untraceable) after his wife (Hope Davis, The Special Relationship) dies in a car accident.
Taking a teaching job at a local university thanks to the recommendation of an old friend (Keener), the family must learn to adjust to a new life in their new city. But visions of their past, particularly those of Kelly and Mary, increasingly begin to put the family into vulnerable and possibly perilous situations.
Originally titled Genova (as the city is referred to in Italian), the movie played in theaters around Europe in 2009 to generally positive reviews.
The always-fine Firth won a Best Actor Golden Globe and Academy Award for his starring role in 2010’s The King’s Speech.
Bonus features on the A Summer in Genoa DVD, which carries a list price of $24.98, include cast and crew interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.
