Image Entertainment released the Hammer Films movie The Resident, a thriller starring Hilary Swank (Conviction), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Losers) and Christopher Lee (The Battle of the River Plate), on DVD
Genre fans were pumped when the The Resident was first announced and then commenced in 2009 as it was one of the first feature films to come from the venerable British horror studio Hammer (for which Lee was the in-house ‘Dracula’ throughout the 1960s) in nearly three decades. (During those years, Hammer was primarily involved in television productions while it was purchased and sold several times by various European companies.) Last year, in partnership with Overture Films and Relativity Media, Hammer co-produced Let Me In, the remake of the Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In. Let Me In was issued on DVD by Anchor Bay on Feb. 1, 2011.
The Resident concerns a young doctor, Juliet (Swank), who has separated from her husband to begin a new life in Brooklyn. Her stunning, spacious loft apartment seems too good to be true, but when mysterious occurrences lead her to believe she’s not alone, Juliet discovers the unthinkable … her landlord (Morgan) is a stalker.
Swank and Morgan definitely have a more intense relationship here than they did in the 2007 romantic drama P.S. I Love You
Originally slated to have a theatrical release, the film instead premiered in the U.S. on DVD and Blu-ray.
No special features are on the Blu-ray and DVD of The Resident, which carry the list prices of $29.97 and $27.97, respectively.
