New Release: Deep Red Blu-ray and DVD

Deep Red movie sceneOn April 26, 2011, Deep Red, the “giallo” shocker film by Dario Argento (The Bird With the Crystal Plumage), was reissued on Blu-ray and DVD in both its uncensored English version and full-length Italian director’s cut for the first time ever by Blue Underground.

Starring David Hemmings (Blow-Up, Gladiator), Daria Nicolodi (Tenebre, Shock) and Gabriele Lavia (Beyond the Door, Inferno), Deep Red spins the tale of an English jazz pianist living in Rome who witnesses the brutal hatchet murder of a renowned psychic and is quickly drawn into the savage crime. With the help of a tenacious female reporter (Nicolodi), the two follow a twisted trail of deranged clues and relentless violence to solve the bloody mystery.

While the Blu-ray offers both the uncensored English version (105 min.) and full-length Italian director’s cut (126 min.), the DVD only contains the English version of the highly stylized 1975 cult favorite.
