HBO Home Entertainment released the documentary Wartorn 1861-2010 on DVD on May 17, 2011, through Warner Home Video.
Executive produced by James Gandolfini (Welcome to the Rileys), Wartorn is a study of combat stress and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on military personnel and their families throughout recorded American military history, from the Civil War to the present.
With suicide rates among active military servicemen and veterans on the rise, the film brings attention to the invisible wounds of war via soldiers’ first-hand accounts in letters and journals, photos, combat footage and first-person interviews with veterans of WWII (who are speaking about their PTSD for the first time), the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The film also features conversations between Gandolfini and top U.S. military personnel, enlisted men in Iraq, and medical experts working at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.
Special features on the DVD include a panel discussion on PTSD held after the movie’s premiere at the Pentagon.
The disc carries a suggested retail price of $19.98.
