News: Casablanca, Lethal Weapon anniversary editions

Starting March 28, Warner Home Video is putting a moratorium on the current DVD and Blu-ray editions of Casablanca and the Lethal Weapon series in anticipation of releasing special commemorative editions in 2012.

The studio is planning a Casablanca 70th Anniversary Edition and Lethal Weapon 25th Anniversary Edition and promises “stunning remasterings, spectacular Blu-ray debuts, new special feautures, Ultimate Collectors Editions and more.”

Classic drama Casablanca (1942) stars Humphrey Bogart (The African Queen) and Ingrid Bergman (Murder On the Orient Express). Disc Dish‘s Most Romantic War Movie, the film won three Academy Awards, for Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture.

The four Lethal Weapon action movies star Mel Gibson (Mad Max) and Danny Glover (2012) as an unlikely pair of buddy cops. The first film in the series, from 1987, was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Sound category.

Lethal Weapon was released on high-definition Blu-ray in 2006 and Casablanca last year.
