Jack Black’s (Tropic Thunder) fantasy comedy Gulliver’s Travels was released on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on April 19, 2011, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. The family movie was Fox’s first release in Blu-ray 3D.
Another re-imaging of the classic book by Jonathan Swift, the movie follows Lemuel Gulliver (Black), who in this adaptation is a mail man-turned-travel writer. He takes an assignment to go to Bermuda but instead ends up on the island of Liliput, which is inhabited by tiny citizens. The film’s cast also includes Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Emily Blunt (Wild Target), Amanda Peet (2012) and Billy Connolly (Timeline).
It’s the first live-action movie directed by Rob Letterman, whose previous films are the animated Monsters vs Aliens and Shark Tale.
Rated PG, Gulliver’s Travels reportedly cost $112 million to make, but the movie, which was released in theaters on Christmas Day last year, was greeted with mid-range reviews and grossed only $42 million in theaters.
Both the film’s DVD and Blu-ray, which were priced at $29.99 and $39.99, respectively, come packed with special features.
