HBO‘s 2005 TV drama Rome returned to Blu-ray in individual season sets on June 7, 2011, through Warner Home Video.
The acclaimed television show, which aired for only two seasons, looks at the civilization 400 years after the founding of the Republic, when Rome was the wealthiest city in the world. Founded on the principles of shared power and personal competition, with no one man allowed to have absolute control, Rome was at a time when those foundations were crumbling from corruption and excess. The series’ drama follows two soldiers (Kevin McKidd of TV’s Grey’s Anatomy and Ray Stevenson of The Other Guys) who unwittingly become entwined in the historical events of ancient Rome.
A multiple award-winner, the historical show won four Emmy Awards its first year (for art direction, costumes, hairstyling and visual effects) and three in its second year (for art direction, cinematography and hairstyling). Rome also was nominated for two Golden Globes, for best drama TV series and the performance of Polly Walker (Clash of the Titans).
Rome was previously released on high-definition Blu-ray, but only as a Complete Series set.
The new Rome: The Complete First Season and Rome: The Complete Second Season Blu-ray sets carry five discs each and were priced at $69.98.
