New Release: The Big Bang Blu-ray and DVD

The Big Bang movie scene

Private eye Antonio Banderas begins to see the light in The Big Bang.

A Los Angeles private eye is hired to find a missing stripper in the science-fiction-tinged crime thriller The Big Bang, starring Antonio Banderas (You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger). The genre-bending movie was released on Blu-ray and DVD from Anchor Bay on May 24, 2011.

Banderas plays the private detective Ned Cruz, who gets an intriguing offer from a recently paroled Russian boxer: Find Lexie, his missing girlfriend, and the $30 million stash of diamonds she’s hiding. Cruz jumps on the case, which leads him to L.A.’s seediest corners and run-ins with such co-stars as James Van Der Beek (The Rules of Attraction) as a Hollywood action star with a dirty little secret; Snoop Dogg (Old School) as an enterprising porn producer and Autumn Reeser (TV’s No Ordinary Family) as a kinky waitress with an unusual fetish for particle physics.

Ultimately, the trail leads to a reclusive billionaire (Sam Elliott, Thank You for Smoking) and his physicist (Jimmi Simpson, Date Night) who are intent on recreating “The Big Bang” underneath the New Mexico desert. It’s around this time that Cruz realizes that what began as a standard missing person’s case could very well result in the end of the world as we know it.

Directed by Tony Krantz (Otis), the 2011 independent film received a limited theatrical release in New York and L.A. in early May before coming to disc.

Bonus features on the Blu-ray and DVD, which carry the list prices of $34.99 and $29.98, respectively, include the following:

  • director’s commentary
  • behind-the-scenes featurette
  • extended scenes
