Music documentary Justin Bieber: Never Say Never was released as a single DVD and a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on Friday, May 13, 2011 — ooh, a Friday the 13th release — by Paramount Home Entertainment.
Directed by John Chu (Step Up 3D), the movie offers fans a look into the life of Bieber, following him on his 2010 concert tour and detailing his rise from kid with a dream and a distinctive head of hair to international pop sensation. Along with Bieber, Never Say Never also features musical acts Boys II Men, Miley Cyrus, Ludacris and Usher, among others.
Never Say Never arrived in theaters with mixed reviews, from “basically an unimaginative concert movie” from Philip French of UK’s Guardian to, from Associated Press’ Christy Lemire, “a big, glossy celebration of the musical phenom that knows exactly what it needs to do to send its target audience of ‘tween girls into a tizzy of giddy screams.” But fans gave the movie their approval to the tune of $69 million at the box office.
The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and single DVD were priced at $29.99 and $19.99, respectively.
